Goodreads Book Review: Army Wives by Fiona Field

Soldier's WivesSoldier’s Wives by Fiona Field

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I wasn’t sure what to expect when I picked  up this book, especially as it was described like ‘soap opera like’. In the event, I really enjoyed meeting the three very different heroines and their heroes. It was interesting to see how the women each saw different aspects of army life and their emotional response was so different.

Parts of it were sweet, others (Jenna! OMG!) were faintly horrifying. The stories wove through one another making it feel like you were part of the community.

The best bit about it was they way the writing was so immersed in the army life style. It was unapologetic in the use of army jargon – there were no explanations, but you could understand what they were talking about.

This is a great book to read if you want to get a feel for what people are going on about when they talk about the khaki life.
