I bought this book because of the title. I watched Star Trek when I was a kid so it caught my eye. The premise sounded fun.
Ensign Dahl is assigned to the Intrepid, which seems to have a really high death rate, especially amoung ensigns who go on away missions. (The ensigns wear red shirts). After a while, he works out the mechanics of how this works and staying close to the main characters suddenly becomes a matter of survival.

This book was hilarious. The characters were interesting, the action and the dialogue was fast paced and funny. The story itself had twists and turns and was surprisingly moving in places.
I absolutely loved it.
