Book review: The Name Game by Beth O’Leary

Book cover. Illustration with a bay in the background and two characters, one male, one female, facing in opposite directions in the foreground.

There is a job of shop manager going on the beautiful Island of Omer. Charlie Jones is really looking forward to accepting the job. But on the day, two people turn up. Both with the same letter offering them the job. Both called Charlie Jones.
Which one of them is the real Charlie Jones? Does it matter?

As Charlie (who wants to embark on solo motherhood) and Jones (who wants to a place to reinvent himself and stay sober) share a job, and a home, meant for only one person, they get to know each other rather well. They also get to know the inhabitants of the island and have to figure out their place in the community.

This book is such a lovely and uplifting read. I absolutely loved the community on the island – such vivid and interesting characters! There is a twist in the middle which I definitely did not expect – it took me a whole chapter to get my head around it. This was a delightful and happy read. I whizzed through it in a day.

For those who want to know about spice levels – this is a low spice read (my favourite).

I got a review copy from Netgally. Thank you!
