That Girl From Nowhere by Dorothy Koomson
This was an interesting book. Clemency ‘Smitty’ Smittson is adopted and the only clue she has to her roots is the box with butterflies on that she was given when she was adopted. She moves to Brighton, the town of her birth, with her adopted mother (who is arguably, her real mother) and secrets from the past start cropping up.
There was a lot going on in this book. Themes to do with adoption and the sense of belonging, family pride, familial bullying, euthanasia… It was a thought provoking read. (It’s kinda hard to review without spoilers, sorry! You’ll just have to read it).
I won a copy of this book in a competition. 🙂
