Flight to Coorah Creek by Janet Gover
My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I picked up this book because I’ve met Janet and she’s a good laugh. Also, I enjoyed her previous book Bring Me Sunshine (with the penguins) very much. I’m glad I did, because I read this book in a day. When I wasn’t reading, I kept thinking about it. The characters were vivid and interesting.
Jess was hurting and carrying around a load of guilt. Adam was wonderful – everything a Flying Doctor should be! The only things I know about the outback, I’ve learned from watching Aussie soaps and films as a child. Janet Gover’s descriptions evoke a real sense of place. I could almost smell the red dust.
The secondary characters – Ellen and her weirdly well behaved kids, big softie Jack, all were lovely. My favourite was sister Luke. Now there’s a lady to be reckoned with.
The story moves along at a pace. I enjoyed every bit of it (including the bit that made me cry).
Above all, I loved the feeling of community in Coorah Creek. Personally, I’d like to see more of the place.
I enjoyed Coorah Creek too, in fact I have enjoyed all Janet’s books so far so I can agree with your choice Rhoda.
