This week’s Inheritance Books are from über prolific novelist and all round lovely person, Rachel Brimble.
Hi Rachel, welcome to Inheritance Books. Please tell us a bit about yourself.
I live in beautiful Wiltshire and lucky enough to be able to write full-time around my husband, two teenage daughters and black Lab, Max. I started writing for publication in 2005 and since my first book was published in 2007, have managed to contract all twelve of the books I have written.
When I’m not writing, I like to read, walk the countryside, knit and watch far too much TV! I aim to write two full-length novels per year but as the word count grows, so does my output. I currently write books around 90,000 words but hope to soon contract to around 100,000.
You mean expand to 100,000, don’t you? Just kidding. Twelve books in 7 years is pretty amazing.
Which book have you inherited from the generation above? Why is it special?
Gone With The Wind – I love this book mainly because I am obsessed with American history, but the Civil War especially. It is a great doorstop of a book but every time I read it, I gain something else from the experience. The characters are three-dimensional and exciting in their own way, the setting and time-span fascinating and the story explores a myriad of emotional and moral questions.
I have read this book four times since I was 15 – I set a personal goal to revisit it of every 7 years, because I love it so much. Next reading is due 2017. Can’t wait!
Which book would you like to leave to future generations? Why? (NOT one of the books you’ve written).
Me Before You by Jojo Moyes – just adored this book! Very rarely do I read a book, finish it and immediately want to go back and start again. This book did that for me. Just beautiful writing, amazing characters and a storyline that makes you think, cry, laugh and become entirely emotionally involved.
Just wonderful.
This is a book I hope my daughters will learn from – such great moral lessons without the feeling of being preached at. Glorious!
That does sound wonderful. I’ve got two Jojo Moyes books in my TBR pile at the moment. Maybe I should move this one to the top.
Thank you so much for sharing your Inheritance Books with us Rachel. All the best with all your books!
Rachel’s latest release is the second in her Harlequin Superromance series set in the fictional UK seaside town of Templeton Cove. A Man Like Him is available now.
