Remember when trope graphics were all the rage? You had your book cover and then some curly arrows pointing to the tropes and themes that are in the book.
I think these are still a really good thing to have – people skim read and you can convey quite a lot of information in one of these graphics. If someone doesn’t read your sort of book, they’ll scroll past (which is fine, they were never going to buy you book anyway), but for someone who loves you genre – you’re hitting them with the most relevant bits.
But we’ve seen so many of them now. Our depleted attention spans require motion, dammit!
So here is a variation on the trope graphic – we’re making a 20 second video which introduces the tropes, set over a video backgound, because everyone’s on Tiktok these days, apparently. Remember that Instagram reels and Tiktok vidoes are the same size – so you can cross post the same video in both places.
The nice thing about this sort of post is that you can make it feel like a completely different reel/ Tiktok simply by changing the background video. Even though the text is exactly the same, it will look like a new video when it pops up on a feed.
