Canva Tips for Authors: Be more human with your designs

Whatever you think of generative AI, it looks like it’s here to stay. It’s everywhere now.

Last week, I was reading a post on my kid’s school app (because, of COURSE there’s an app for that now!) and thought ‘this sounds mildly hysterical’. It was a notice about a bake sale, but the language was flamboyant and over the top. Then I realised that it was probably written by ChatGPT. So yes, the stuff is everywhere now.

What does this mean for us writers? I honestly don’t know. AI is pretty good at writing now. It’s harder and harder to tell what’s been AI generated and what’s human made. It seems that readers still prefer human-made things. So, I thought I’d do a video on how to be more human with your designs. We used to aim to things that looked polished. The good news is that now we don’t have to. Imperfect is better. I think that’s liberating. ‘Good enough’ is actually better!

Here’s the tutorial on more human design. Just click on the play icon to watch on YouTube.

Do you actually use social media yet? If you find the idea of talking about your book online too daunting, you might be interested in my Get started on Social Media (for the Bewildered) mini-course.
