Aaron is a police officer, a good one, who doesn’t like corruption. But he’s not so daft as to not be aware that some of his colleagues are not as ethically minded as he is. When his cousin’s engagement is broken because the fiancee took the word of a graphologist, Aaron goes to investigate what’s going on.
Joel can read personality through handwriting. Since he lost his hand in the war, he can’t find useful work, so he’s charging people for readings of handwriting.
Graphology is a real thing – and in real life, it doesn’t work, but in the world of the book, it does. Joel can sink into the writing and get a feel for the person behind it and some idea of what they’re feeling at the time they wrote the letter.
Aaron is fascinated by this and wants to study it, maybe do an experiment to test whether it works. Also, he find Joel quite attractive (not with the moustache, but otherwise…).
Joel has very good reasons not to trust policemen, but there’s something about Aaron…
This was a great book. I really liked how Joel’s missing hand was always relevant in the story and not brushed away as a mere detail. It affected nearly every aspect of his life. But it didn’t define him – I liked that too.
This book is interesting and fun (and hot). Highly recommend!
