This week’s Inheritance Books are from Ichabod Temperance (which is just such a cool name). Hi Ichabod, welcome to Inheritance Books. Can I offer you a very British scone with cream and jam?

So, tell us a bit about yourself.

Howdy, ya’ll. My name is Ichabod Temperance. I stand about 5-8, and weigh in at about 145 pounds. I am a life-long Birminghamster. Irondale is on the Eastern side of this Alabama city. I’m an easy going guy, but I like to good naturedly scrap with my pals. This is facilitated by many years’ involvement with Martial Arts, punk rock drumming/dancing, and professional wrestling. The only difference between Icky the author, and Icky the book character, is age and several ounces of knee cartilage.

Which book have you inherited from the generation above? Why is it special?

My mom’s favourite authors are from the turn of the century; early mystery writers like Anna Katharine Green. Mine are too, as I still find myself going back and reading Conan Doyle over and over again. I told mom I wanted to write a mystery novel, and she gave me a copy of Mary Roberts Rinehart’s ‘The Circular Staircase’ as a reference because she considers it a model for the classic whodunnit. 

Which book would you like to leave to future generations? Why?

I treasure my copies of Neal Stephenson’s ‘The Baroque Cycle’ trilogy. It has so many elements of adventure that I love! There are lots of varied sea battles, swashbuckling, intrigue and romance! The entire globe is circumnavigated in this epic tale. A slave girl is freed by a charming rogue, and the unlikely pair have extraordinary adventures on their way to achieve their happily ever afters. I think I’ll go read it again, right now.
